Utilizing Creative Commerce to Empower Young Women in Uganda

Uganda, East Africa | 2018 – Present

Partnered with Rose Charities NY, we are focused on enhancing social philanthropy by supporting vulnerable young women living in poverty in Uganda to become self-employed artists. Creative commerce is an area for growth with low barriers to entry and the opportunity to provide living wages for women who seek creative outlets to flourish. Our pilot project aims to establish a business model that can be replicated in vulnerable communities worldwide.

There are few opportunities for women living in poverty in Uganda to find work. Even with a good education, there is little use for it because there are so few jobs. There is a wealthy middle class living in Kampala with growing disposable income and a desire to look good. This has created a new market for creative professionals and products. It is challenging to get decent access to establish innovative services in Uganda, and there could be a significant opportunity to break into that market.

Working with women who have shown a keen focus on wanting to sustain themselves through a creative outlet. We focus on building systems that can provide for their basic needs as they establish small businesses within their community. Creative commerce is an outlet that can change lives, and we want to encourage women to become the next generation of role models.
